Located at the heart of downtown Seattle, WA, The Art Institute of Seattle was founded in 1946 as the Burnley School for Professional Art and had already trained a generation of graduates by the time it joined the Art Institutes in 1982. A network of 32 schools located in major cities throughout the U.S, the Art Institutes have been providing higher education for individuals interested in design, media arts, fashion and culinary arts for more than 35 years.

The Art Institute of Seattle is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and the American Culinary Federation (ACF). Student body has grown from 100 to nearly 2,500 in 2004. The Art Institute of Seattle offers a wide variety of programs for which several degrees are available. The programs cover animation art & design (AOS degree), audio production (AOS degree), baking & pastry (AOS degree), culinary arts (AOS degree), digital design (Diploma), fashion design(AOS degree) , fashion marketing (AOS degree), graphic design (AOS degree), industrial design technology (AOS degree), interactive media design(AOS degree) , interior design (AOS and BFA degrees), media arts & animation (BFA degree), photography(AOS degree) , residential design (Diploma), the art of cooking (Diploma) and video production (AOS degree). The duration of these programs depends of the degree, but generally ranges from 12 (diploma) to 21 months (AOS degree).

The Art Institute of Seattle offers career services to help students and graduates to succeed in the job market: an average of 89% of the 2005 graduates is working in a field related job within six months of graduation. Admission at The Art Institute of Seattle requires that all applicants schedule an interview (in person or over the phone) and present high school diploma or GED certificate, a 150-word essay, an admission application with a $50 fee, an enrollment agreement, a $100 tuition deposit, as well as proof of English proficiency. A financial aid program offers many possibilities (gift aid, loans, work) of assistance for qualifying students.
