Hagerstown Business College, created in 1938, is accredited by the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and is licensed by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

The four main areas of education that exist at Hagerstown Business College offer a varied spectrum to choose from, and perhaps most importantly, a choice of practical, in demand careers. The Legal area encompasses the legal assistant, computer forensics, legal secretary and criminal justice programs. The Business area includes the accounting, administrative professional, business administration, computer specialist and computerized accounting programs. The Allied Health courses include the medical assistant, health information technology, medical billing/coding, medical receptionist, medical receptionist/transcriptionist, medical secretary /assistant, medical transcriptionist, dental assistant and phlebotomist. Finally, the Computer Technology area includes graphic design, network systems technology, computer network technology, computer forensics and computer applications. Depending on the program, different degrees are granted at Hagerstown Business College, including Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Associate of Arts (AA), Certificate, etc. A placement office assists graduates to enter the workforce upon graduation, as well as a workforce development program to further develop alumni.

Admission at Hagerstown Business College requires all applicants to submit an application form, which also includes a transcript release form which will be forwarded to the institution where the applicant obtained its high school diploma or GED. Next comes a placement assessment (where the applicant’s skills in reading, writing and math are tested) and finally class registering, where the student receives the support of the Registrar to prepare the schedule. A financial aid program is available to assist applicants, and Hagerstown Business College also offers a residence hall (that includes kitchen, laundry area, etc) for its students.
