Child Care: All for the Kids

Child Care degrees encompass majors such as child care management, early childhood education, maternal and child health and child development. Child Care management majors prepare to manage child care services; they learn how to run preschools, care centers, and other child care services. The classes cover a wide range of topics, for instance: business management, children’s health issues, theories of education and child psychology. As a child care management major you will be able to study bookkeeping, budgeting, and other topics of business management, read about laws governing child care, learn how to spot signs of child abuse and what to do when you find them, learn the best methods for disciplining children and get hands-on experience with children in day care centers, preschools, and similar settings.

The typical courses of this major are: observing children’s behavior, nutrition, introduction to business, infant and toddler first aid and CPR, fundamentals of early childhood education, financial and legal issues of child care education, creative experience, children in the family, child development, child care management and care of children with disabilities. Child development majors learn about the development of children’s intelligence, social skills, emotions, and bodies so they can design services for them. The courses cover public policy issues, influences on child development, methods of parenting and parent-child relations. Related majors to child development include psychology, human development & family studies, and early childhood education.
